Support Coordination with Participants with Psychosocial Disability. Support Coordination is a service available under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) that supports people with a disability to reach their goals in life and be part of their community. NDIS is designed to give participants choice and control over how they use their funding and who supports them.
Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue. A psychosocial disability defined by the NDIS Commission is a mental health issue that affects people's daily activities such as socialising or interacting with others in a social setting, learning or self-care or/and their capacity to fully participate in society. The aim for Support Coordination is to build a NDIS participants capacity for independence. This enables them to exercise choice and control in their lives. Did you know most new NDIS participants can get Support Coordination added to their plan? When a new participant gets a NDIS plan, you can request Support Coordination, it is a fully funded NDIS service. We often see participants and families/caregivers that are confused around how to properly spend the NDIS funding once they've been approved. There is certainly a gap in the space around helping people to utilise the money and also who to contact and what is available in the community. A Support Coordinator can fill this gap. |
What makes EPIC Coordination different than other Support Coordination Services?EPIC Coordination support coordinators are Mental Health Professionals whose aim is to strengthen participants’ abilities to coordinate and implement supports in their plans and to participate more fully in the community.
EPIC Coordination services help participants who are at risk and those that exhibit risky behaviours beyond normal behaviour and experimentation. We also offer capacity building support coordination to participants who are street present or homeless, in youth detention or mental health facilities and participants incarcerated. |
