Children and Youth Counselling.Epic Coordination are here to support children and young people to grow up happy, healthy and live an emotionally and psychologically fulfilling and meaningful life.
Our counselling service differs from others as we immerse ourselves into the children’s’ and youths’ lives as a mentor. Our service doesn’t only consist of talking therapy. Services can consist of taking the young person to specialised Doctor and Mental Health appointments, advocating for the child or young person, family mediation and, guidance and support with day-to-day life skills that support growth. Whether it be over the phone, in our private counselling room, in your home, or out at the beach. Our specialty is reaching out and having a chat where the child or young person feels most comfortable. Our trained counsellors are able to give children and youth the tools needed to overcome difficulties in their lives through education of coping skills. Coping skills can help them deal with stressful situations and to minimise the effects of anxiety, depression and mental health disorders. EPIC Coordination operates a face-to-face, outreach and web-based professional counselling service for children and youth from 10 to 25 years of age experiencing mental health challenges including suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety and self-harm, family issues and conflict, school issues and bullying, family violence and child protection issues. Person-Centred Approach.Our team embody the holistic person-cantered approach by working closely with you and your team of trusted supporters to help you achieve your goals and to make sure you are living life to your full potential.
EPIC Coordination respects the individual, takes the time to get to know the participant and build on rapport. Building on the professional relationship helps us to have a deeper understanding of the participants experiences and goals, which will allow EPIC Coordination to further tailor the care. Participants are always treated with dignity and respect. This involves communicating in a respectful way, listening to what they have to say and taking on board their input. The participant is the expert of their lives. Confidentiality is maintained; unless the participants wellbeing is at risk. No information is shared unless the participant gives consent, the participant establishes what information they want shared and with who. |
Parent/Caregiver involvement. EPIC Coordination maintains confidentiality with the children and youth. Everything that is shared in the course of our work together will be treated as highly confidential. What they communicate with EPIC Coordination counsellors during their session together, stays between them.
However, there are a few circumstances in which the counsellor is required to break confidentiality.

Are Counsellors covered by Medicare?
You may be surprised to learn that the work of counsellors is not currently covered by Medicare. It has been a source of frustration and confusion for both counsellors and their clients. After all, counsellors are well placed to provide some of the Medicare funded services provided by psychologists, mental health social workers and credentialled mental health nurses.
The good news is that a change in the Medicare provisions for counsellors could arrive sooner than later. The Australian Counselling Association and other advocates in the counselling industry have been working hard to bring counselling services under the Medicare umbrella and provide better outcomes for all Australians. |
